Eden Hazard has been announced as the Europa League Player of the Season for 2018/19.

The Belgian pipped Giroud and fellow Real Madrid summer signing Luka Jovic in the vote.

The award takes into account performance for club during Europe's second-tier competition in 2018/19.

Last year, Barcelona new boy Antoine Greizmann scooped the award after his magical performances for Atletico Madrid - who won the competition in 2017/18.

This time around, another player from the winning team has won the accolade after Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1 in the final back in May - with Hazard and Giroud both scoring.

Jovic was instrumental in Eintracht Frankfurt's run to the semi-final, scoring 10 goals along the way.

However, it was Giroud who finished as the tournament's top goal scorer, notching 11 and recording four assists as well.

Hazard only scored twice in the Europa League last season, with both of those strikes coming in the final against Arsenal.

The Belgian was unplayable on the night, delivering another trophy for Chelsea in his final game for the club.

Hazard was announced as the winner at the Europa League draw ceremony in Monaco, becoming only the third player to do so.

The award was introduced back in 2017, with Manchester United's Paul Pogba the first recipient.

Congratulations to Hazard!
