WWE's Rey Mysterio is one of the popular and well-known wrestlers today, so it comes as no surprise that Cody Rhodes of AEW has his eyes on him.

Mysterio is one of the popular superstars in WWE today thanks to his high-flying moves and never-say-die attitude. He brings a huge Latino following with him wherever he wrestles.

The Master of the 619 signed a two-year contract with WWE in September last year. He had tried to negotiate an 18-month contract instead, but WWE wanted a two-year deal.

However, Mysterio did work a clause into the deal that would allow him to give notice at the 18-month mark, meaning we could know he will be leaving WWE as early as March 2020.

If the 44-year-old does decide to leave WWE, Cody will be ready to swoop him up for AEW.

During his live show at Starrcast III, via WrestleTalk, the AEW executive vice president said he hopes WWE takes care of Mysterio. Otherwise, he's going to try and sign him.

He said: “I hope they do right by Rey, because if they don’t, I’m gonna steal that son of a b---h right off of them. Hashtag contract tampering.”

Obviously, AEW isn't going to be getting themselves involved in any contract tampering anytime soon, but they're making where they stand on The Master of the 619 clear.

Mysterio already has a connection with the majority of the main officials at AEW, as he was involved in a tag match at All In last year alongside Bandido and Rey Fenix against The Golden Elite of Kota Ibushi and The Young Bucks.

Rey may want to stay around in WWE longer than his current contract as there are rumours his son, Dominick, has signed a contract with the company and the two are heading into a storyline together.

We'll just have to wait until 2020 to see if Mysterio wants to stay with WWE or pursue a new adventure with AEW.
