Chris Smalling has left Manchester United to join Roma on loan.The Italian club will pay £2.7m to have the defender for the rest of the season, who has spent nine seasons at Old Trafford.Despite winning the Premier League twice with the club, Smalling has fallen down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.On Friday, Solskjaer explained his decision to allow the 29-year-old to leave."This opportunity for Chris has come up in the last couple of days," said the United boss."We've got six fit centre-backs. I couldn't promise him regular football."It's a big club, a good league. There are not many English players who have had the chance to play in Italy and I'm sure he'll come back stronger and better for it."And Smalling himself believes it’s a great move for him."This is the perfect opportunity for me.
