In truth, it was a fairly underwhelming summer transfer window for Manchester United. After finishing sixth last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was expected to make a whole host of signings. However, the Red Devils had to settle for just three.Aaron Wan-Bissaka arrived from Crystal Palace for £50 million. Harry Maguire joined him for £80 million. And there was also the signing of Daniel James from Swansea for £15 million.

The 21-year-old was probably bought with a long-term vision but the Welshman has hit the ground running at United.

He scored on his debut against Chelsea, forcing his way into the starting line-up.

He equalised against Crystal Palace last weekend and, this week, he opened the scoring against Southampton with a brilliant strike.

James, operating on the left-wing, cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot past Angus Gunn.

Not only was it a great goal, but it also brought up a rather hilarious stat.

That’s because James has now scored as many Premier League goals than Alexis Sanchez managed. James is currently playing his fourth league game, whereas Sanchez made 32 appearances for United in the top-flight.

Not to mention Sanchez’s astronomical wages compared to James’ presumably relatively low income.

In the same week that Sanchez left the club to join Inter on loan with United still having to pay £6 million in wages for the rest of the season, that stat is even more remarkable.

At this rate, it won't be very long at all until James surpasses Sanchez's tally altogether. It may even be this afternoon.
