Romanian side Poiana Mare Youth were all set to take on CS Carcea in their Liga 4 Dolj clash until they realised an important event was happening at the same time.

One of their players was getting married.

As a result, the club revealed on Facebook that they were unable to fulfil the fixture, and thus would forfeit the match, so the team could attend the wedding of their colleague.

They had asked for the game to be rescheduled but CS Carcea declined their proposal.

Deliu Ionut and his new wife Diana "chose to sign the contract of life and get married" - and the team forfeited the game 3-0.

Still, the players celebrated the special day with a post reading: “Lost a game, but won a family."

There is more to life than football.

Although try telling that to the Indian man who left his own wedding early to play in a 7-a-side game.

Back in January, a story went viral about Ridvan, who comes from Kerala and plays for FIFA Manjeri.

FIFA Manjeri had a game against Malappuram 7s but it clashed with Ridvan’s wedding.

An unfortunate turn of events, for most people. There will be more games to play in.

But not for Ridvan. He left his wedding ceremony, telling his wife: “Excuse me for five minutes!” before heading off to play for his team.

To be fair, it was a semi-final match. Huge.

FIFA Manjeri won the match and Ridvan returned triumphant.

But according to talksports24x7.com, his wife was not impressed.

“So if the game was at noon, would you cancel the marriage for the game?” she reportedly asked him.

Here’s hoping they’re still living happily ever after!
