Arsenal and Tottenham played out a pulsating 2-2 draw in the first north London derby of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs raced to a 2-0 lead early on but the Gunners managed to haul them back thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It was everything you could want from a blockbuster Premier League fixture - there were goals, controversy and a few bust-ups - all while bathed in glorious London sunshine.

It is on afternoon’s like that when you simply can’t deny that the Premier League is the best league in the world.

However, Sky pundit Jamie Redknapp may have taken it a step too far during the clash when he claimed that the north London derby is the ‘best fixture in football’.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said:

The North London derby is the best fixture in football, every time I watch it the football gets better

While it may at first seem like a bit of an outlandish claim, he might just have a point.

Whenever Spurs and Arsenal step into the ring together there is always drama and you are guaranteed a heap of goals.

But to go as far as to claim it is the best fixture of the lot? We’re not so sure.

Now no one is denying that the tie is right up there with the best, but does it outclass the rest?

Simple answer - no.

As far as bang for your buck goes, the north London derby is always great value, but, in terms of global influence, you simply can’t look past El Classico and Manchester United v Liverpool.

While the latter may have fizzled without ever popping in recent times, the rivalry between the two northern clubs transcends borders, separating families the world over.

As for El Classico - well the world simply grinds to a halt when those two are at each other’s necks.

It’s a bold claim Jamie, but we aren’t having it.
