After his recent win against Hughie Fury, Alexander Povetkin has set his sights on powering through the Fury family...and he hasn’t called out Love Island star Tommy.

Instead, the Russian has called out Tyson Fury after his rather underwhelming bettering of Hughie via a points decision on Saturday.

After the dull fight, many believe that the 39-year-old’s call, however, is a sign of pure desperation.

This decision wasn’t quite as contentious as the Fury vs Deontay Wilder fight, nor was it half as exciting.

On the undercard of Vasyl Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell at the O2 Arena, the match-up began with Fury in control of the early rounds, frustrating Povetkin with a quick jab routine that made life difficult for the big hitter.

Povetkin, though, began to dominate in the mid-rounds and grew into the fight as Hughie showed signs of fatigue. In the end, all of the officials had the bout exactly the same – 117-111 for Povetkin, who turns 40 on Monday.

After the bout, Joe Joyce took to social media to express his desire to be Povetkin’s next opponent, however, it seems that the Russian has his own ideas of who he should fight next.

The Gypsy King has previously claimed that Povetkin rejected a deal to fight him in America this year in favour of boxing his cousin in London.

Outraged by this claim, Povetkin used his post-fight interview to challenge the former unified heavyweight champion.

Povetkin said: “He’s talked a great deal about me turning down offers to fight him this year which were never sent.

“He speaks of wanting to fight in England before the end of the year, this is a perfect plan for me.

“I’d be happy to return to fight in front of these great boxing fans and prove to them and the rest of the world that I can beat Tyson Fury.”

On the fight itself, Povetkin, who won the WBA International heavyweight title, was happier than most of the spectators with the way he performed.

“I’m very happy with my performance,” he said. “We worked very hard in training camp and I was able to control the fight with my aggression.”
