The ICON list for FIFA 20 continues to get better and better. So far, the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Didier Drogba, Andrea Pirlo, John Barnes, Ian Rush and Ronald Koeman have joined Pele, Diego Maradona and many more. And the list has been bolstered further by the addition of Chelsea legend, Michael Essien.

The Ghanaian midfielder was a key man for the Blues during his nine years at the club and scored some rather famous goals.

That swerving long-range shot against Arsenal and his dipping volley versus Barcelona in the Champions League will never be forgotten by Chelsea fans.

But what makes Essien's addition to the ICON list even more interesting is the fact that he is still an active professional footballer out in Azerbaijan.

The 36-year-old joined Azerbaijan Premier League outfit Sabail FK back in March, signing a one-and-a-half year deal.

He is also the coach of Sabail's U19 team.

Essien played just four games for Sabail in the 2018/19 season, starting just once.

In 2019/20, he has made just one appearance for the Azerbaijani outfit in their first three league games of the season - where they have registered two wins and one defeat.

It seems as if Essien's signing is to coach those around him and in the youth setup rather than have an impact out on the pitch.

Prior to his move back to Europe, the African midfielder was plying his trade in Indonesia where he enjoyed a pretty productive 2017 with Persib Bandung.

During his 29 appearances, Essien managed to score five goals, which is not bad at all fora defensive-minded midfielder.

Maybe Sabail should give him a few more minutes this season...
