Manchester United haven't had much luck with transfers since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho all had a go but were unable to make good use of United's riches, signing more flops than genuinely good players.

Now it's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's turn and the Norwegian splashed almost £150m this summer to bring in Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

It remains to be seen how the trio will fare, but initial signs are positive.

With the summer transfer window now closed, we've taken a look at the 28 players United have signed since Fergie stepped down six years ago and ranked them from worst to best.

Since they've only been at the club for a couple of months, we've omitted Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and James, making it 25 players.

Bet you can't guess the worst...

25 - ALEXIS SANCHEZ (2018)

Unquestionably United's worst signing since Ferguson retired - and even though he's joined Inter Milan on loan, Sanchez is still earning £500,000-per-week. Outrageous.

24 - FRED (2018)

What a waste of money. Fred cost £52m in the summer of 2018 and considering he hasn't played for United in over four months, he's basically being paid £120,000-per-week to train.

23 - MEMPHIS DEPAY (2015)

Depay arrived as a future superstar at United; two years later he departed as a complete flop. The Dutchman has since rediscovered his form with Lyon.

22 - RADAMEL FALCAO (2014)

Four goals in 29 appearances tells you everything you need to know about Falcao's time at United. It's a good job they only signed him on loan - albeit for a hefty £6m fee.

21 - ANGEL DI MARIA (2014)

Big things were expected of Di Maria when he joined United from Real Madrid for £59.7m, but his only highlight was a clever chip against Leicester City in a 5-3 defeat. He lasted a year.

20 - BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER (2015)

Schweinsteiger was way past his prime when United signed him from Bayern Munich and his age showed in the faster and more physical Premier League.

19 - MATTEO DARMIAN (2015)

Signed for £12.7m, sold for £3.6m four years later. Darmian will be forgotten about very quickly at Old Trafford.

18 - MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN (2015)

On paper it looked like an excellent signing, but the jump from Southampton to United proved too much for Schneiderlin, who quickly faded away and was eventually sold to Everton.

17 - LEE GRANT (2018)

More a confusing signing than a bad one, Grant has only ever made one appearance for United in the EFL Cup (now the Carabao Cup). The 38-year-old is somehow still at the club.

16 - MARCOS ROJO (2014)

There's a difference between being a tough-tackling defender and a reckless defender, which Rojo is still yet to work out at the age of 29. It's a good job he only cost £16m.

15 - HENRIKH MKHITARYAN (2016)

Poor at United, poor at Arsenal. It's a wonder what happened to the Mkhitaryan that scored 23 goals and assisted 26 for Borussia Dortmund in the 2015/16 season.

14 - SERGIO ROMERO (2015)

Romero has only really featured for United in the cup competitions and when called upon he's been pretty average, which is all you can say really.

13 - DIOGO DALOT (2018)

It's too early to judge Dalot at United, but the 20-year-old is set for another frustrating season of sitting on the bench with Wan-Bissaka on the scene.

12 - MAROUANE FELLAINI (2013)

United turned into a long-ball team whenever Fellaini played, which annoyed the club's fans, but the powerful Belgian did score some important goals with his head.

11 - LUKE SHAW (2014)

Injuries and fitness issues have plagued Shaw during his five years at United, not to mention inconsistent defensive displays, but going forward he's a threat and he's still only 24.

10 - ANTHONY MARTIAL (2015)

Martial has been burdened with the weight of expectation ever since joining United in 2015, especially after his stunning debut goal against Liverpool. He's got so much potential.

9 - ERIC BAILLY (2016)

Excluding summer signing Maguire, Bailly is United's best centre-back when he's fully fit. Unfortunately for the Ivorian, it's very rare that he's injury free.

8 - JUAN MATA (2014)

Mata has been consistently decent during his five-and-a-half years at United, but as his 32nd birthday approaches you suspect the Spaniard won't last much longer.

7 - NEMANJA MATIC (2017)

Matic was a rock in his debut season at United when they finished second in the Premier League, but over the past 18 months his performances have slipped.

6 - DALEY BLIND (2014)

United's very own Mr Versatile, Blind often had to cover at centre-back and he always did a decent job. For that alone, he deserves to be ranked as a good signing.

5 - ROMELU LUKAKU (2017)

Sixteen goals and seven assists in his debut season at United was a solid return from Lukaku, who perhaps received more criticism than he deserved. Rubbish first touch, mind.

4 - VICTOR LINDELOF (2017)

Lindelof has improved a lot under Solskjaer and he seems to have found his long-term partner at centre-back in Maguire. Expect him to keep getting better.

3 - PAUL POGBA (2016)

Say what you want about Pogba, but the Frenchman's numbers have improved every season since joining United and when he's on form, there's not many better players in the Premier League.

2 - ANDER HERRERA (2014)

Herrera was vastly under-appreciated at United and more often than not produced a solid performance for United in the middle of midfield. He should never have been let go for free.

1 - ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC (2016)

The God of Manchester. Ibrahimovic proved age is just a number at United as he scored 28 goals in all competitions - many of them match winners - in his first season and won three trophies.
