Neymar has finally learnt his fate - at least until January. The Paris Saint-Germain star had been lobbying for a return to Barcelona throughout the summer but to no avail.Despite the best efforts of his former employers to strike a deal with the Ligue 1 champions, Neymar will be forced to remain at the Parc des Princes. There’s no question he has his heart set on playing for Barcelona again as soon as possible, so it’s surely only a matter of time before the saga is rekindled. For now, though, Neymar is set for a third season in the French capital. The 27-year-old will no doubt be disappointed with the outcome given the extent to which he’s struggled with injuries and off-field issues since his £200 million switch in 2017.Many fans were keen to see the back of a player they viewed as a traitor, too, having displayed derogatory banners towards Neymar at matches this season. While the Brazilian likely faces a long road to redemption among supporters, his standing within the PSG squad is less clear-cut.The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Marco Verratti have stood by Neymar from the moment he joined the club, which suggests he’s not a complete outcast. However, last Saturday when Neymar announced he wouldn’t be leaving PSG in the transfer window just closed, his news was met with a teasing reaction.According to Chief Football Editor of RMC Sport Mohamed Bouhafsi, players taunted the most expensive footballer of all time by repeating the words ‘se queda’ (he stays) multiple times.

The phrase refers to when Gerard Pique posted a photo of himself and Neymar on Instagram in July 2017 with the caption 'se queda', only for the latter to sign for his current club a few weeks later.

Considering how desperate he was to rejoin Barcelona this summer, hearing those words must have stung a bit.

Neymar isn’t yet ready to return to action for PSG while he nurses an ankle injury he picked up in an international friendly against Qatar in June.

His absence hasn’t impacted Thomas Tuchel’s side a great deal so far this campaign, but their Ligue 1 record is already imperfect after they lost 2-1 to Rennes a fortnight ago.
