Ricochet vs Samoa Joe's King of the Ring match this week on Monday Night Raw had a controversial finish, and for a good reason.

Earlier in the night on Raw, Baron Corbin defeated Cedric Alexander via pinfall in a great match to advance to the semifinals of the King of the Ring tournament next week.

However, the second King of the Ring match on the night between Ricochet and Joe did not have a clean finish, as both superstars fell with their shoulders down on the mat and their arms on top of each other for the three count.

Referee John Cone was unable to make a ruling, but later he would announce that both men would compete next week in the semifinals on Raw against Corbin in a Triple Threat match.

While the ending really dampened what was another good King of the Ring match, there's a reason behind the madness, according to Dave Meltzer.

Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio, via Ringside News, that while the triple threat makes no sense, it's being booked in order to 'showcase Ricochet' but it doesn't necessarily mean he will win.

While he couldn't rule out a win for The One and Only, the idea is that in the match at The Garden will pin Ricochet, a babyface, against two big heels in Corbin and Joe. The dynamics of the match should allow him to showcase his talents in the ring.

This sounds like Ricochet is going to get a lot of time next week on Raw to really show off what he can do inside the squared circle, which is great to hear.

The One and Only has only been on WWE's main roster since February earlier this year, but he's already made a big impact with a United States Championship reign.

WWE officials are rumoured to be high on Ricochet, which helps to explain why he's being given an opportunity to showcase his skills in the ring next week.

You never know, a good showing next week at Madison Square Garden could be the catalyst towards Ricochet being involved in a major storyline. Never say never when it comes to WWE.
