At the age of 31, Nicklas Bendtner has returned to his boyhood club Copenhagen.

On 16 January 1988 the striker was born in the Danish capital but, by the age of 16, was snapped up by Arsenal.

It was at Arsenal that Bendtner gained quite an interesting reputation.

He may not have been the best player in the world but he became something of a cult hero at the Emirates and was soon dubbed ‘Lord Bendtner.’

He certainly backed his own ability when, in 2010, he said: "If you ask me if I am one of the best strikers in the world, I say yes because I believe it.”

He remained at the Gunners for seven seasons, scoring 45 goals, having loan spells at Birmingham, Sunderland and Juventus in the meantime.

Permanent spells at Wolfsburg, Nottingham Forest and Rosenborg have since followed.

Throughout that time, Bendtner has remained a bit of a hero. His 30 goals for his country may have something to do with that.

Now, he’s returned home.

After his contract expired with Rosenborg, he’s signed for Copenhagen until December.

"When I was 16 and left home, there was a lot I didn't know about...15 years later, I can honestly say that it feels even bigger than I dreamed," Bendtner said.

"I'm not tired of football at all. I am hungry and motivated like never before."

And it seems like the Copenhagen fans are pretty excited to have him.

That’s because it’s being reported that the club have completely sold out of their home jersey in all adult sizes, 17 hours after Bendtner arrived.

"There has been huge interest in securing our new home jersey with Bendtner 32 on the back, which has meant that the jersey is sold out in all sizes," Copenhagen fanshop store manager, Martin Nohr, said.

We are at an unprecedented level in recent years when it comes to selling jerseys, and there is a huge interest in our jerseys at the moment. We have never sold so many jerseys in one day.

In fact, after Bendtner was announced, the website momentarily crashed after it was announced that the forward would be wearing the 32 shirt - an iconic number for Copenhagen after it was donned by the legendary Peter Moller.

But fear not, the club have said that if you pre-order a ‘Bendtner 32’ shirt, it will be in stock again in seven to 14 days.
