Neymar will spend the 2019/20 season at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian had been linked with a stunning return to Barcelona, just two years after leaving the Camp Nou for the Parc des Princes.

But the move broke down.

According to Guillem Balague, PSG’s valuation of the player was £194 million.

Barcelona only submitted one offer for Neymar: £107m in cash, £13.5m in bonuses and three players.

PSG wanted defender Jean-Clair Todibo, midfielder Ivan Rakitic and forward Ousmane Dembele.

And while the first two players reluctantly agreed, Dembele refused to be part of the deal.

Negotiations continued nonetheless but Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu didn’t once meet PSG counterpart Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Neymar or his father.

“It felt like Barca were not putting all of their weight into the transfer,” Balague claims.

And so the move didn’t happen - much to Neymar’s sadness.

According to Spanish radio station El Chiringuito - and brought to our attention by Esporte - the 27-year-old couldn’t stop crying when he received the news that he was to stay at PSG.

Neymar reacted with frustration and anger that PSG didn’t get a deal completed. Those around him say they have never seen him so downcast.

The forward was even ready to pay €20 million of his own money to force through the move.

So it’ll be interesting to see what Neymar turns up for PSG this season.

There is a belief that he will return to Barcelona in 2020.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Sport, Neymar had agreed a contract with his former employers that would pay him less than the €38m he earns in France.

That shows how keen he is to repair a relationship that was hurt when Neymar quit Barcelona in 2017.

It’s clear that the close of the transfer window has only put a stop to the Neymar to Barcelona rumours. Expect them to pick up once again next summer.
