More than 25,000 Galatasaray fans turned up at Istanbul airport on Sunday to welcome new signing Radamel Falcao.

The reception Falcao received was incredible. It really was a hero’s welcome.

The 33-year-old arrives in Turkey still with plenty left to offer. He scored 15 goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco last season, and 18 in the season before that.

Manchester United and Chelsea fans don’t share many fond memories of the Colombian’s time in the Premier League, but Galatasaray supporters clearly believe he’s going to be a revelation.

He was unveiled to his new fans at Turk Telekom Stadium, where more than 40,000 people were there to greet the striker.

Falcao seemed to enjoy every moment, lapping up the crowd’s ovation.

Something tells us this is going to be a special relationship.

What an atmosphere.

Falcao joins the Turkish club after a spell at Monaco which saw him score 83 goals in 139 games for Les Monegasques.

He was a regular for Leonardo Jardim’s side, helping them win the Ligue 1 title in 2016/17.

Falcao scored 21 goals in that memorable campaign.

His arrival at Galatasaray was just one of a number of high-profile signings that the Turkish champions completed in the transfer window.

Florin Andone and Mario Lemina both arrived on loan from the Premier League.

Galatasaray also signed Fulham duo Ryan Babel and Jean Michael Seri following the Cottagers relegation last season, with the latter leaving on loan.

Steven Nzonzi is another loan arrival, the midfielder joining from Roma.

The expectation is that Galatasaray will cruise to another title but they’ve made a slow start to the new season, collecting just four points from their opening three matches.

They lost their opening match to Denizlispor and drew 1-1 with Konyaspor.

And they needed a 98th-minute winner to beat Kayserispor in their last outing.

Still, with all their new arrivals it’s hard to see anyone denying Galatasaray a 23rd league title this term.
