Liverpool have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Ajax over striker Luis Suarez.
The protracted transfer of the Uruguay international has been the longest running saga of the January trasnfer window but now appears to have reached a conclusion.
A fee has been agreed between the two clubs, and now it is down to Liverpool to agree personal terms with Suarez, providing he passes a medical.
A club statement read:
"Liverpool Football Club announced this afternoon that they had agreed a fee of up to 26.5million Euros with Ajax for the transfer of Luis Suarez, subject to the completion of a medical.
"The Club have now been given permission by Ajax to discuss personal terms with the player and his representatives."
Upon their acquisition of Liverpool, owners New England Sports Ventures (NESV) outlined their plans to invest heavily in the playing squad in order to transform fortunes at Anfield - and signing Suarez goes a long way to keeping that promise.
