FIFA revealed the 55-man shortlist for their World XI on Thursday.Five goalkeepers, 20 defenders, 15 midfielders and 15 forwards have made the cut.Everywhere you look, there is world-class talent. And, of course, there is Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The two superstars hold the record for most appearances in the World XI with 12.

However, by being named in the 55-man shortlist this time around, it means Ronaldo is only player to have been selected in every single shortlist since the FIFPro World XI began - 15 years ago.

That’s right, FIFPro started doing their World XI in 2005 and a 19-year-old Ronaldo was named on the shortlist back then.

A certain Lionel Messi - who is two years younger than his rival - wasn’t named on the shortlist until 2006.

But they both made their first appearance in the World XI in 2007 and have both been in it ever since.

And that doesn’t look like changing this year, despite both players well into their thirties.

Ronaldo and Messi were recently interviewed at the UEFA awards and Juventus star paid tribute to his long-time ‘rival’.

"We shared the stage, me and him for 15 years," Ronaldo told BT Sport.

"I don't know if it has ever happened in football before, it's not easy.

"We have a good relationship, we have not had a dinner together yet, but I hope in the future.

"Of course I miss playing in Spain, we had that battle over the last 15 years. He pushed me and I pushed him as well, it's good to be part of the history of football.
