Diego Maradona was officially named the new manager of Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata last week.Gimnasia had been on the lookout for a new boss after their terrible start to the season - they're rock bottom with one point from five games. And so, naturally, you turn to Maradona. The legend's most recent role was with Dorados de Sinaloa, a Mexican second division side.He failed to secure promotion, however, losing in two play-off finals to Atletico San Luis, both after extra-time.

Maradona then stepped down in the summer as he required a knee operation.

Now fit again, he'll take over at Gimnasia in his first club managerial role in his homeland since 1995.

Maradona is known for his exploits as a player far more than what he's achieved as a manager but that doesn't hinder the excitement at Gimnasia.

This is arguably the greatest player in history and one of Argentina's greatest icons managing the club after all.

Fans were celebrating in the street once the news was official but one fan, in particular, caught the eye.

He was caught on camera waving a chainsaw about among several other fans.

Only in South America...

Maradona has a real job on to save Gimnasia but then if anyone can perform a miracle it's El Diego.

He took to Instagram to thank the club's president for the position.

"Finally it's now official," Maradona wrote. "I am very happy to be the new coach of Gimnasia.

"I want to thank the president Gabriel Pellegrino for this opportunity and say to all the fans that we are going to work with our hearts and souls for El Lobo [the wolf, Gimnasia's nickname]."

There's little doubt that this will be one to watch.
