The Pittsburgh Steelers have started their 2019 NFL season badly, but it couldn't have gone much worse for their second-string center B.J. Finney.

The Steelers lost their opening game of the 2019 season to the New England Patriots 33-3 away at Foxborough on Sunday night.

Their defense couldn't stop the Patriots' productive offense, and their own offense struggled to get any points on the board throughout the game. At points in the game though, they were shooting themselves in the foot.

With just over six minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Steelers were on the second play of a must-score drive in order to try and add some dignity to their performance.

Unfortunately, all dignity was thrown out the window when Finney forgot to snap the ball on a 2nd-&-10 play.

Everyone else moved on the offense except for their backup center, who stayed in his stance ready to snap the ball out of his hand.

Penalty flags were then thrown and, despite the fault being completely on Finney, the entire offensive line was called for the false start excluding him and the team was given a five-yard penalty and forced to replay second down.

The Steelers wouldn't score on the resulting drive, but the backup center only played a small part in the team's loss, as their offense was lackluster all night long.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger only completed 27 of 47 passes for 277 yards and an interception. 116 of his yards on the night came on non-scoring drives in the fourth quarter with the team down by four scores.

It was quite clear that the Steelers were missing two of their key playmakers from recent years, which are running back Le'Veon Bell who now plays for the New York Jets, and wide receiver Antonio Brown who signed for the Patriots this past week.

Their replacements at the top of the running back and wide receiver depth charts, James Conner JuJu Smith-Schuster respectively, didn't step up on the night.

Conner gained 21 yards on 10 carries, with the team only having 32 yards rushing in all. Smith-Schuster only caught six passes for 78 yards, with 26 of those yards coming on one throw in the final six minutes.

The entire Steelers offense will be expected to improve their performance on the field next week when they take on the Seattle Seahawks.
