Philippe Coutinho dominated headlines in the latter stages of the summer transfer window as the Brazilian looked to reignite his career after struggling at Barcelona.

Coutinho was subject to a return to the Premier League in a loan spell with Manchester United and former club Liverpool the early potential destinations before Tottenham expressed an interest.

However, the attacking midfielder decided to embark on a new challenge instead, signing for German side Bayern Munich on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

Since then, the 27-year-old has featured in two of Bayern’s opening three Bundesliga matches and will be hoping to play his first full 90 minutes at his new club after the international break.

The move took many by surprise, especially when former club Liverpool looked to be waiting in the wings.

However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was quick to play down any speculation.

In fact, it has been revealed that his former Liverpool boss pushed him to head to Bayern Munich instead.

Speaking to German outlet Bild, Klopp said: “I personally told him that Bayern and him would be a good fit.

“He's a world class player and a really good signing for Bayern - and the Bundesliga.

“We’d already spent all the money we got for him. I have already told him in person that he and Bayern will be a good fit.”

Klopp is a man who knows the Bundesliga inside out and won the title twice with Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

However, his former club probably didn’t appreciate their ex-boss convincing Coutinho to join their rivals.

Nevertheless, Klopp remains hopeful that Dortmund can regain the title next season.

”[It is] Not so good for Dortmund,” he added.

“I hope Dortmund will win the title again because it’s getting boring with Bayern winning every year. But Dortmund have an amazing team.”
