Vincent Kompany left Manchester City earlier this summer to become player-manager at his boyhood club Anderlecht.

Unfortunately, that move hasn't gone quite as well as he would have hoped.

The Belgian club made their worst start to a season since 1998/99, with two defeats and two goalless draws.

Less than one month into the season, Kompany announced that he'd be stepping down as manager, to concentrate on just playing instead.

Despite his struggles back in his home country, there's absolutely no doubt that the 33-year-old is a legend at Man City.

So much so, that he's been given a testimonial, which takes place on Wednesday evening.

The former club captain will lead a team of City 'Legends' against an XI made up of Premier League 'All-Stars'.

It's going to be a well-deserved celebration for a player who won plenty of silverware in Manchester - but his team of 'legends' is getting quite a bit of stick on social media.

Why? Because the word 'legend' seems to have been used rather loosely.

Check out the full Man City squad:

Joe Hart, Costel Pantilimon, Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, Kolo Toure, Pablo Zabaleta, Richard Dunne, Gael Clichy, Nigel De Jong, Samir Nasri, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland, David Silva, Dietmar Hamann, James Milner, Craig Bellamy, Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Benjani.

Yes, that's right. The likes of Pantilimon, Dunne, De Jong, Wright-Phillips, Ireland and Benjani are considered greats at the Etihad, apparently.

Some football fans couldn't help but poke fun on Twitter.

"Nah I can’t. City have thrown in two of their regular starters in Aguero and Silva to make up numbers for Vincent Kompany’s Legends testimonial," one wrote.

"So glad Benjani got the call up he well and truly deserves," another said.

Thankfully, the Premier League All-Stars squad contains a few bigger names:

Edwin van der Sar, Shay Given, Phil Neville, Gary Neville, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Rafael van der Vaart, Cesc Fabregas, Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie.
