Rangers manager Walter Smith is hoping to recruit another player before the end of the transfer window following the capture of David Healy.

The Scottish champions confirmed the signing of Healy from Sunderland until the end of the season, before defeating Motherwell to book their place in the final of the Co-operative Insurance Cup.

Smith said: "We have been trying for the last few days unsuccessfully, apart from David Healy, and we will continue to try. Whether we will be successful or not, we will have to wait and see. If we can add someone, it would probably be a defender."

Kenny Miller had netted 22 goals this season before quitting Ibrox for Turkey and Smith now expects boyhood Rangers fan Healy to step up to the mark.

He added: "He's a goalscorer, he's someone who is an out and out goalscorer.

"He is someone who was keen to come to us and we are delighted to have him. We need that kind of thing in and around the box at the moment."

Rangers now face Celtic in the final on March 20 and also come up against their Old Firm rivals in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup next weekend on top of their Clydesdale Bank Premier League clashes against each other.

"It's just good to get to a final regardless," said Smith. "Celtic had a good win (against Aberdeen) yesterday to get there.

"These things throw themselves up at times. We have four league games against Celtic to start with and we also have the opportunity to meet each other in the cup ties. That's what's happened this year and we are going to have four games between now and the end of the season.

"The games so far this year have been good games so it will be interesting to see how the four games pan out."
