Khabib Nurmagomedov has finally restored order to the 155-pound division in UFC after a long absence.

The Eagle hadn't stepped foot inside the Octagon since October 2018, but he returned in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night and delivered a wrestling clinic.

It was at the expense of Dustin Poirier, who was dominated for the majority of the fight, even though at one point he had a guillotine choke locked in on Khabib.

The Russian though showed his exemplary grappling skills that have kept him unbeaten all through his professional career and made 'Diamond' submit to a rear naked choke in round three.

Following Khabib's victory, Dana White stated that Tony Ferguson will be next in-line for a shot at the lightweight title if he really wants it, but the fight in the Middle East got a response from the man that was soundly defeated at UFC 229.

Conor McGregor indirectly tweeted at the UFC in the hours after Nurmagomedov's victory, telling them that he wanted to avenge his loss nearly a year ago in Moscow.

The Irishman hasn't fought since that fateful night in Vegas, and whilst he announced his 'retirement' earlier this year, it wasn't genuine and McGregor's shown signs of wanting to return to the fight game in recent times.

He had a less-than-complimentary response for Poirier though, who suggested they should go at it again following McGregor's first round win in 2014.

Both men are much better fighters than they were five years ago, but McGregor isn't keen on a rematch.

"I fed you to the canvas in 90 seconds bro," McGregor tweeted towards Poirier.

"You should have spoke my name with a bit more respect in that build up. 'McGregor’s not next', Motherf**ker, it’s McGregor always!

"McGregor is the goal! Always! Say that now and I’ll think about it."

Despite being UFC's biggest money-maker, it would be doing the rest of the division a disservice if McGregor jumped straight back into a title fight after being mauled by Khabib.

A contendership fight would make sense, and the likes of Poirier, Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje must be licking their lips at the prospect of taking on the Notorious one.
