Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo really enjoyed each other’s company at the UEFA awards ceremony last month.

The pair have been rivals on the pitch for more than a decade, going head-to-head in the pursuit of football’s biggest accolades, but it seems like things have mellowed a bit.

Indeed, there was even an offer to enjoy dinner together.

“We have a good relationship, we have not had a dinner together yet, but I hope in the future,” Ronaldo said.

Watching Messi and Ronaldo do battle for Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively always was a joy.

And while fans enjoy nothing more than debating which player really is the GOAT, the respect they have for each other is clear.

So, is that dinner actually going to happen or was Ronaldo just being friendly?

Messi: I would accept Ronaldo's invitation

In an interview with Sport, Messi was asked whether he would accept the Portuguese star’s invitation.

It turns out that he would.

"Yes, I don’t have any problem with that,” the Barcelona star replied.

“I’ve always said that I don’t have any issue with him. We might not be friends because we’ve never shared a dressing room together but I always see him at award shows and there’s no problem.

"We actually spoke with each other for quite a long time at the most recent show.

“I don’t know if there will be a dinner because I don’t know if our paths will cross for obvious reasons, each one of us has our own life and our own commitments.

But obviously I would accept the invitation.

We’d all love to be a fly on the wall for that.

Or maybe Messi and Ronaldo will allow cameras in so we can all enjoy their conversation.

Come on, guys. Make it happen.
