Patrice Evra's brilliant Man United speech as he handed Daniel James the POTM award

Patrice Evra handed the award to Daniel James himself.

Daniel James was something of a strange signing for Manchester United in the summer.

For a team that was looking to rebuild - and would later offload Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez - a Championship winger didn't seem like the answer.

But James always looked like a player with great potential, if United could unlock it.

And his career at Old Trafford has started with a bang - including a debut goal against Chelsea.

He's since added two more goals, too, against Crystal Palace and Southampton, with his performances earning him the club's Player of the Month award.

James received the award on Thursday from United legend Patrice Evra - and the Frenchman stole the show.

Evra took advantage of the award to deliver a speech on the importance of playing for United and it will resonate with every fan.

“Daniel James, you’ve been voted by the fans and myself as Player of the Month,” Evra said. “I think you deserve it and to be honest I’m really really happy to give you that trophy because the passion, the love - I can see it.

“It’s the best days in your life when you’re playing for this club and we need those players.

Daniel James has scored three times for Man Utd so far.

"I remember your celebration - you gave me goosebumps! I was watching you on TV and it was not about your goal, but more about your celebration because it was like ‘the club is on the right way’ because we need players like you.

“Your age doesn’t matter; if you’re young or old, you need to show that passion and that love for this shirt because this badge has a big history.

"I think you understand everything and I’m convinced 100% that you’re going to have an amazing career because you have the right attitude and that’s important."

Now that's an inspirational speech and you can check it out below:

It's something that should certainly inspire James and any other young United player looking to make an impact this season and beyond.
