Liverpool came into Saturday's early kickoff against Newcastle with a perfect Premier League record.

Jurgen Klopp's side sat top of the table over the international break, with 12 points from their opening four games.

They were expected to brush aside the Toon at Anfield, even without striker Roberto Firmino.

Divock Origi came into the side to replace his Brazilian teammate, who was being rested after featuring twice for his country last week.

But it was Newcastle who took the lead early on thanks to an absolute rocket from Jetro Willems.

The left-back picked up a high cross-field pass on the edge of the box before cutting inside, dancing away from Trent Alexander-Arnold and smashing his effort into the top corner.

Oh, and he did it with his weak foot, too. Check out Willems' stunning goal below.

What a brilliant goal. the Dutch defender made Alexander-Arnold look a bit silly there.

The visitors' lead didn't last long though, with Sadio Mane equalising inside the first 30 minutes.

He then struck again shortly before half-time to give the title chasers a 2-1 lead. Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka made a shocking mistake that allowed the Senegalese forward to tap in.

But don't think this game is over just yet, because historically, there's something special about Newcastle at Anfield.

The two sides have played out a few cracking matches before, most notably back in 1996, when the hosts won 4-3 in what became one of the most famous Premier League games in history.

There's still a bit of time left for a repeat of that scoreline.

But with Klopp's side looking to win 14 matches on the bounce, don't expect them to throw away their lead - especially with Manchester City breathing down their neck.
