Liverpool have an early advantage in the Premier League title race.

The Reds’ have a five-point cushion at the top of the table, profiting from Manchester City’s 3-2 defeat to Norwich City in Saturday’s late kick-off.

There’s still plenty of football to play and nobody is ready to hand Liverpool the title just yet.

But considering many believe the league is a two-horse race, Liverpool’s early advantage is promising for them.

Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Newcastle United 3-1 to continue their perfect start to the 2019/20 season.

They have five wins from five and are averaging three goals per game, too.

And an incredible stat has emerged showing just how impressive Liverpool have been in recent times.

The Anfield club have appeared in more Champions League finals over the past 16 months than they have Premier League defeats.

That’s right. Liverpool have reached two Champions League finals and lost only one league game since May 2018.

The Reds lost only one game in the entire 2018/19 Premier League season - against Man City on January 3.

And they’ve appeared in the two most recent Champions League finals, against Real Madrid in 2018 and against Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.

This really is Liverpool’s time.

Their success against Spurs in June marked Klopp’s first trophy in charge of the club, and more look set to follow.

Not only does their attack rank among the best in Europe but their defence is impressively stout.

Liverpool had the best defensive record in the league last season, conceding 22 goals, and no team has conceded fewer than the four they have allowed through the first five games of this campaign.

The Champions League win was nice.

But there's a very, very real chance that the trophy every single Liverpool fan wants - the Premier League - will come their way this season.
