Tyson Fury proclaimed “I live for this s**t!” after sustaining the major cut above the eye which almost called time on his fight against Otto Wallin last night. The Gypsy King came out on top against Wallin in Las Vegas, but not before a ringside doctor took multiple examinations of the facial injuries sustained by the Brit in round three.Once patched up, Fury somehow found the resolve to battle through the pain for nine tough rounds, eventually defeating Wallin by a unanimous points decision. On paper, the fight was supposed to be straightforward for Fury, and nothing more than a training bout for a tougher upcoming test in the form of WBC champion Deontay Wilder. And stunned silences fell over the T-Mobile Arena after the third and sixth rounds, as the referee and medics deliberated whether to stop the fight and award Wallin a shock victory by technical knockout.

A teaser from BT Sport’s next episode of ‘Corner Cam’ has shed new light on how, in the immediate aftermath, Fury coped with the injury that could have cost him the fight.

With at least half a jar of Vaseline applied to his head, Fury’s exchange with trainer Ben Davison mid-fight exposes how the injury appeared to possess the Gypsy King to victory.

Davison gave an impassioned pep talk to his 6-foot-9 fighter: “You feel good? Keep doing as you’re doing. You shoot in and smother him.

“You’re shooting your shots and smothering his counter, working inside, you’re hitting the body and bringing them up. Keep that up! He’s going to crack, believe me, he’s going to crack!”

Fury, visibly possessed with determination, took all of this in without taking his eyes off the area across the ring, towards where Wallin and his team were no doubt stood.

And the only thing that the British heavyweight could find the words to say further reinforced the man’s never-ending resolve to overcome - “I live for this s**t!”.
