Arsenal's defence is nothing short of a shambles right now.

After their collapse at Watford, there is no sugarcoating it anymore and the Gunners have made more errors leading to goals than any Premier League team since the start of last season.

Two first-half goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had elevated Arsenal to a comfortable lead, looking to return them to winning ways after the Liverpool and Tottenham games.

However, you simply couldn't have written how Arsenal would start to surrender their lead and it came from an unfathomably poor pass from Sokratis Papastathopoulos in his own box.

As if inspired by Nicolas Otamendi's breakdown against Norwich City, the Greek defender watched in horror as his pass was intercepted and Tom Cleverley duly started the comeback.

Watford 2-2 Arsenal

But surely, even by Arsenal's self-destructive standards, they couldn't make yet another error?

To that, David Luiz could only respond: 'hold my beer' after he conceded a second penalty in just three games by bringing Roberto Pereyra to ground.

It was an incident that meant Arsenal have conceded 10 spot kicks since the start of last season which - you guessed it - is more than any Premier League side.

Arsenal's defensive disaster

Pereyra duly took the penalty himself to level the scores and Watford almost went one better if it wasn't for Abdoulaye Doucoure missing a big chance late on.

The moral of the story is that Arsenal completely bottled it and although we could spend ages listing every single embarrassing statistic, we think we've found the best of the bunch.

That's because Arsenal have now conceded an eye-watering 96 shots in just five Premier League games this season, more than any team in Europe's top five leagues.

Yes, that's right, no team in the Premier League, Ligue 1, La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga has allowed their goal to be peppered with more efforts at goal than Arsenal.

And it became so laughable during the second-half in particular that 2% of all the shots in the Premier League this season came from Watford during the closing 45 minutes.

It's truly staggering stuff. Bernd Leno must be the most frustrated goalkeeper in world football as he helplessly watches the madness unfold in front of him.

Shkodran Mustafi and Luiz are both widely considered to be too haphazard at the back and now even Sokratis is dropping the kind of errors associated with his teammates.

However, no matter who you point your finger that, the fact of the matter is that Unai Emery seriously needs to drill his defence far better in the coming days.

They can kiss goodbye to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League if they intend to perform so amateurishly for the rest of the season.
