Zlatan Ibrahimovic knew he was going to be a hit in Major League Soccer from the moment he signed for LA Galaxy in March 2018.

The charismatic Swedish forward took out a full-page advert in the LA Times after putting pen to paper with the MLS side containing a short, simple message: “Dear Los Angeles, You’re welcome.”

He was 36 years old when he signed for the Galaxy and some people doubted whether he still had it - but the legendary forward has proved in recent times that age really is just a number.

In 52 appearances for his current employers, the 6ft 5in striker - who turns 38 in early October - has scored a magnificent 48 goals.

He netted 22 goals in 27 games during his debut campaign with the Galaxy and currently has 26 goals in 25 matches for the current season.

Zlatan has picked up the Newcomer of the Year, Goal of the Year and MLS Player ESPY awards since his arrival and has helped to raise the profile of America’s top league worldwide.

He scored his 24th, 25th and 26th goals of the season in a 7-2 win over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday evening.

And he broke an LA Galaxy club record in the process.

His first goal of the night came from the penalty spot. His 24th goal of the campaign meant he’d now tied the LA Galaxy single-season goalscoring record.

He then broke the record early in the second half. “History belongs to @ibra_official,” the Galaxy tweeted.

And just for good measure, Zlatan went on to complete his hat-trick with a classy left-footed strike.

That celebration… what a showman.

After the match, Zlatan also produced one of his classic one-liners during his post-match interview: "Scoring goals is easy. You just have to be like Zlatan."

With another four games left before the season finishes, Zlatan looks set to well and truly smash the Galaxy’s record for most goals in a single season.
