Khabib Nurmagomedov has raised a staggering $100,000 for Dustin Poirier’s charity, The Good Fight Foundation. The Russian UFC Lightweight Champion raised the funds by selling the American’s t-shirt after their main event bout at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi.Immediately after the fight, the two exchanged shirts in the Octagon. Khabib confirmed the victory with a submission in the third round to unify the UFC Lightweight titles. The undefeated Nurmagomedov took his professional mixed martial arts record to 28-0 with the win at The Arena on Yas Island on September 7. He, along with UFC president Dana White, post-fight promised to auction the t-shirt off to raise money for his foundation.Dustin Poirier tweeted on September 16, confirming that Dana White had matched Khabib’s donation to Poirier’s foundation.

The former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion has a partnership in place with the non-profit organisation Fight For The Forgotten. They send aid to Batwa pygmy children in Uganda following flash flooding that destroyed the clean water supplies for the village’s school and orphanage.

Poirier spoke of the donation on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN this Monday: “I had no clue he was going to do that. He raised a lot of money. It was the biggest donation we’ve ever had with the foundation.

“Khabib donated 100,000 dollars. I believe all from the shirt; I don’t know if he auctioned it off or had someone offer him it. I’m not sure - I haven’t had a chance to speak with him personally and thank him. He donated the money; it’s in the foundation account.

“We’re going to do great things; he’s going to help a lot of people out with his donation. It’s incredible to see fighters donate things; just the growth the foundation has had in the last year and a half. I’m really grateful. Those things make me smile."

In terms of the donation, Poirier had originally set a goal of $25,000. Through the charity’s website and online, The Diamond had initially raised around $33,000.

“I’m going to hop on a call this week and talk more,” he said.

“We set an overflow goal of $50,000 to build a few more water wells in neighbouring villages. We’ll see what we can to do to help. We demolished this goal we had.”

Poirier’s mixed martial arts record now stands at 25 wins, 6 losses and 1 no contest after Khabib halted a four-fight winning streak.
