The 22 Champions League wonderkids ready to shine in the 2019/20 season

2019 MLS All-Star Game: MLS All-Stars v Atletico Madrid

There are few bigger stages in sport than the Champions League.

Considering some footballers would even prefer to win 'Big Ears' than the World Cup itself, the prestige of Europe's biggest competition is clear for every supporter to see.

And while it can elevate already legendary players to even dizzier heights, it can also serve as a launchpad for young players being given their opportunity to shine.

In terms of last season, it's difficult to look beyond the ranks of the successful Ajax team with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong proving outstanding performers.

Although both players were already considered class acts, their unforeseen run to the semi-finals show how beautifully unpredictable the Champions League can be.

But that begs the question: which young players will break through this season? Well, fear not, because that's what the Independent have sought to answer this week.

They have taken it upon themselves to list 22 players under the age of 22 who football fans should keep a close eye on and, hopefully, watch as they tear up European competition this year.

Some players like Kylian Mbappe - despite qualifying age-wise - have been excluded, but there's a nice of mix of known starlets and players who could shine from absolutely nowhere.
