Cristiano Ronaldo gave one of his most revealing interviews yet when he spoke to Piers Morgan for ITV.

The Portuguese superstar discussed his plans to marry girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and just how close he came to signing for Arsenal.

And he broke down in tears after watching a video of his late father, who never got to see Ronaldo reach the top, that he had never seen before.

Also among the topics of discussion was Ronaldo’s rivalry with Lionel Messi and their continuous quest to be football’s greatest player.

Ronaldo has been locked in a head-to-head battle with the Argentinian maestro for more than a decade.

And they currently find themselves tied with five Ballon d’Ors each.

But Ronaldo is eager to become the undisputed GOAT and believes he deserves more Ballon d’Or awards than Messi.

Ronaldo: I deserve most Ballon d'Ors

When asked what trophy record he wants to set before he retires, the Juventus forward said, via the Daily Mail: “The most golden balls in the history of football. I will love it and I think I deserve it.

“Messi is a fantastic guy and a fantastic player, but I think after I have six, or seven, or eight then I’ll be more above him.”

Ronaldo has never failed to hide his belief that he is the best player in history.

And, while he’s aware that people have their preferences, he has no doubt about who really is No.1.

“I cannot control what the people like, some people like this player or that player,” the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player added.

“For me, (I am) the number one in history. I know I’m one of the greatest ever in the history of football.”

Messi may be the popular choice with those in football - Eden Hazard, Wayne Rooney, Arsene Wenger, David Beckham, Ronaldinho and Xavi have all declared him the GOAT - but he certainly can’t rival Ronaldo when it comes to self-belief.
