It's an incredibly interesting time for UFC and mixed martial arts fans, with fights such as Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson possibly just around the corner. However, another lightweight bout could be on the cusp of creation involving Justin Gaethje and, interestingly, Conor McGregor. After taking a step back from mixed martial arts following his defeat to Khabib, McGregor took to Twitter to compose a cryptic message which could possibly hint at a return to the Octagon. The Notorious tweeted 'Dublin, December 14th', suggesting that the Irishman could be set to fight in his own backyard. Although an opponent hasn't been revealed, or a fight even being confirmed, American fighter Justin Gaethje appears eager to take on McGregor. Replying to the Irishman's original tweet, Gaethje revealed a screenshot of the American's private messages with the former UFC champion, stating: "Fight me in Ireland. I need that chaos in my life."

McGregor, who appeared to ignore Gaethje's message, was called out on Twitter by the American fighter, essentially stating the fact that Conor had side-stepped his proposal.

Should Gaethje and McGregor meet in the Octagon, the former champion would certainly have his hands full when facing the American. The fourth-ranked lightweight of the UFC recently secured an impressive victory against Donald Cerrone and has a record of 21-2.

Gaethje managed to silence the threat of 'Cowboy Cerrone' with a first-round knockout. The performance included his trademark kicks and a lethal right-hand which reduced Cerrone to his knees before suffering further punishment.

Regarding McGregor, the Notorious hasn't fought since his devastating defeat to Dagestani native Khabib.

Prior to this fight, many questioned the mentality and drive of McGregor and whether he would be able to deliver - taking into consideration his last fighting experience was a blockbuster event versus Floyd Mayweather.

Nevertheless, if the UFC would like to keep fans on side and produce the fights that they want to see, then Dana White needs to no look no further than Justin Gaethje and the notorious Conor McGregor.
