When Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano joined Aleister Black and Ricochet as the four new NXT superstars to make the jump to the main roster in February, there was a lot of excitement shown by WWE fans.
But there was also a sense of bewilderment as it turned out Gargano and Ciampa were portraying a babyface tag team, even though they were both heels at the time in NXT.
They only lasted two nights on the main roster though as they returned to action in NXT, where Gargano turned on Ciampa once again to set up a match for the NXT Championship at TakeOver: New York.
Tragedy struck though not long after it was set up, as it was revealed that a legitimate neck problem would force Ciampa to undergo surgery, thus relinquishing his NXT Title and putting him on the shelf indefinitely.
Anterior cervical fusion surgery was the procedure Ciampa underwent and neck injuries have to be treated with lots of care - in WWE terms we've seen the likes of Edge and Paige retire and Jason Jordan unable to get cleared due to these issues.

It was perhaps surprising to see a report state this week that Ciampa's return date was initially listed at mid-August, but was pushed back to September 11.
However Ciampa has cleared up a lot of confusion by telling WWE fans that he's not been cleared at all yet - and don't expect to see him on the premiere live two-hour episode of NXT tonight.
"There's a lot of rumours and speculation about what my role is going to be, breaking news, I've been told I will be coming back to a wrestling ring," Ciampa told Izzy, better known as the Bayley superfan from her NXT days - per Fightful.
"I've been told I will eventually be able to wrestle again. And the sad part is, no, I'm not cleared. It is what it is.
I will be there September 18th, the 25th, every time going forward. I just won't be out in front of the crowd until [my neck] allows me to.
"I promised my mom at home that this time, we're gonna take our time. I'm excited for [NXT moving to USA], I'd be a little more excited if I could take part in it. We'll get there soon."
Perhaps coincidentally, Ciampa has posted a hype video today which suggests he isn't far off returning to try and win back the NXT Title.
He looks in fantastic shape and who knows, in the next few weeks NXT may see the return of the Sicilian Psychopath.News Now - Sport News
