Piers Morgan hailed Cristiano Ronaldo as the world’s biggest star ahead of his interview with the Portuguese footballer. The journalist-turned-broadcaster sat down with Ronaldo for ITV and discussed a wide range of topics about the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s life both on and off the pitch.Ronaldo opened up about a number of issues - even getting emotional at one point while talking about his late father - and UK football fans who watched Tuesday night’s interview have, judging by the response on social media, gained even more respect for the Juventus forward.A week earlier, Ronaldo scored four goals for Portugal in a 5-1 win over Lithuania.Morgan reacted by hailing Ronaldo as the greatest football of all time.

He tweeted to his 6.8 million followers: ”People can argue about whether he or Messi is the greater player at club level (I’d take CR7 every time) but when it comes to international football, Ronaldo is indisputably the G.O.A.T. 👏👏👏👏"

Morgan has since reiterated his belief that Ronaldo is the best footballer to have ever lived.

However, it turns out that he hasn’t always held this opinion.

One of his old tweets (which he has since deleted *pretends to be shocked*) saw Piers declare Messi as the GOAT - adding “Any further debate is superfluous - I have spoken."

Is that right, Piers?

The tweet, per The Sun, was posted back in 2012 - when Messi was scoring a ridiculous number of goals every week.

The legendary forward scored a record 91 goals in all competitions for Barcelona and Argentina that year.

While Messi hasn’t managed to score as many goals in a calendar year since then, most people would agree that he’s an even more complete footballer these days.

Morgan isn’t the only person who thinks Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi and, of course, it goes without saying that people are allowed to change their minds.

But you leave yourself open to ridicule by tweeting things like: “Any further debate is superfluous - I have spoken”.
