Deciding underrated and overrated players in the world of football can be highly controversial.

The fact of the matter is that you could be the best player in all of sport, but if the majority of supporters are overhyping you and taking things too far, then you're still overrated.

Similarly, you could actually be a bang average player who, as a result of being given far too harsh of a reputation, is actually underrated regardless.

The moral of the story is that it makes for one of the most downright subjective areas of comparing football players because, at the end of the day, it all comes down to personal opinion.

However, that isn't to say that all those opinions can't be amalgamated in one place and Spanish newspaper Marca were feeling inspired to hone in on the underrated category.

Underrated and overrated

The topic was inspired by their belief that Karim Benzema doesn't get the credit he deserves and that Thomas Tuchel should be praised for highlighting him in a press conference.

"He's one of the most underrated players in the world," the Paris Saint-Germain manager said before their clash with Real Madrid. "We saw him against Levante and it's scary.

"He's top class, very difficult to defend against because he doesn't only play as a number nine; he goes wide, he goes everywhere. It feels like he's been at Real Madrid for 25 years!"

Football fans cast their vote

So, Marca decided to pick 10 players from Europe's biggest clubs and then leave it to their reader to decide how they should be ordered by casting their votes.

Given the context of the poll, it seems fitting that none other than Benzema would take the number spot, but you can enjoy the full results - at the time of writing - down below:
