Eden Hazard was given a baptism of fire on his full Real Madrid debut.

Having pulled on the iconic white jersey for the first time against Levante, the former Chelsea winger was thrown right into the deep end with his maiden start away to Paris Saint-Germain.

Leaving Hazard's individual display to the side for the moment, it was a catastrophic night for Los Blancos as they were humbled 3-0 in the French capital.

It's an especially damning result when you consider that PSG were without their attacking trident of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.

Instead, it was the turn of Angel Di Maria to take centre stage by scoring twice during the first-half, before Thomas Meunier sealed the result with a fine counterattacking goal.

PSG 3-0 Real Madrid

But what about Hazard? Well the surface statistics don't read particularly well when you consider the Belgian failed to score, produce an assist and was substituted after 70 minutes.

And things don't get much better if you dig a little deeper with Hazard, perhaps still struggling for match fitness, looking a shadow of the forward who wreaked havoc in west London.

It is, of course, still early days but supporters at Real Madrid are certainly unforgiving and a combination of rival fans and their own were keen to criticise Hazard across social media.

Criticism for Hazard

One fan wrote: 'When Madrid fans thought Hazard was their saviour 😂😂😂😂'

Another penned: 'Courtois and Hazard just turned into Karius and Iwobi 😂'

And a Barcelona fan even chipped in to say: 'I feel like Hazard will kinda have the similar season to Coutinho’s terrible one, overpriced asf.'

Still not convinced? Sure, fans can often be partial to superlatives on Twitter, but their reservations were corroborated by the punditry team on BT Sport.

Gary Lineker noted that Hazard looked 'rusty', Peter Crouch said he needed to 'earn' his kingpin status and Rio Ferdinand went as far as expressing concern for the 28-year-old.

Rio Ferdinand gives his verdict

"When you go to a new club, especially the size of Real Madrid, you've got to earn the right to be the player who gets all the ball, that talisman that you look to first," Ferdinand explained.

"He's got to do something in the training games and the actual games that he plays that makes people go: 'we actually need to play him the ball.'

"I'm fearful for him that he's gone there at the wrong time. This is a team that's ageing, this is a team that doesn't feel like its on the way up, there's not much spark about them and that's going to affect him."

As for Glenn Hoddle, he noted that Hazard and Gareth Bale 'were pretty much playing in straight lines' and Crouch claimed there was 'no combination' play between the pair at all.

Spanish press' crushing blow

Oh, but we're not finished there because the Spanish press also started to drive the knife in Hazard's full debut.

Marca wrote about his performance: "Real Madrid’s Galactico signing didn’t hide but he didn’t have an impact on the game either. They need him to be at his best sooner rather than later."

That, and the fact Real Madrid fans only voted them as their 10th best player on a night where their defence shipped three goals. Ouch.

AS even suggested that he stilled looked 'somewhat out of shape', while the French press weren't more forthcoming with Hazard being given a 2/10 rating by L'Equipe.
