There was a shock last night at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Cristiano Ronaldo played against Atletico Madrid and failed to score.

The Portuguese superstar went into the clash having scored 25 goals in his 33 meetings against Atleti.

But he didn’t get himself on the scoresheet as Diego Simeone’s side battled back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw against Ronaldo’s Juventus in the opening match of their Champions League campaign.

Ronaldo was booed throughout the match in Madrid but he so nearly silenced the home fans with a quite incredible effort in the 94th-minute.

The 34-year-old collected the ball from a throw-in beat five Atletico players before just dragging his shot wide.

It was so close to being one of the best individual goals the Champions League has ever seen.

After his incredible skill, Ronaldo made a gesture to the home supporters with his fingers.

But what did it mean?

After the match, Ronaldo was asked about his gesture to which he simply replied: “Learn, you have to learn".

Last season, Ronaldo angered Atletico Madrid fans when he reminded them of his five Champions League titles after receiving plenty of abuse during Juve’s 2-0 loss in their last-16 defeat at Wanda Metropolitano.

And after scoring a hat-trick in the second leg, he was fined €20,000 for his “cojones” celebration.

It was an obvious dig at Atleti boss Diego Simone, who had celebrated in the same way during the first leg.
