Lionel Messi's 'disasterclass' vs Dortmund had been compiled into a video

Lionel Messi returned to the first team vs Dortmund

Lionel Messi has had a frustrating start to the season.

The Argentine forward suffered a calf injury at the start of August which forced him to miss the opening month of the new campaign.

But he's been working hard to get back fit and he made his return against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night.

Barcelona were struggling in their opening Champions League game of the season.

Messi started on the bench but, with the score goalless at the hour-mark, Ernesto Valverde sent him on in the hopes he could inspire his side to all three points.

But it didn't go as planned.

The game ended 0-0 as Barcelona failed to find a way past Roman Burki.

Messi looked dangerous when he came on but ultimately he endured a frustrating night as Dortmund's defence held him at bay.

For all his brilliance, there are some football fans in the world that take pleasure in watching Messi fail.

And one of those fans, Twiiter user @inex_tremis, has decided to make a video on Messi's 'disasterclass'.

And, to be fair, it's hilarious.

The fan has compiled a compilation of Messi losing the ball alongside a dubbed version of 'Take on Me' by A-ha playing over the top.

Watch it below:

The video has since gone viral, accumulating over 2.3k retweets and 5k 'likes' at the time of writing.

It definitely made Messi look much worse than he was but it's still entertaining nevertheless.

Despite not being able to get the winner, Valverde still admitted he was pleased with Messi's performance.

Lionel Messi is tackled by Marco Reus

"He's like any player who hasn't had a pre-season," Valverde said, per Goal.

"He's had to play in a game at an incredible pace, which had already started, all without preparation.

"It's his first 30 minutes. He's done enough."
