It’s 27 years to the day that Ronny Rosenthal produced one of the most infamous misses in football history during Liverpool’s match with Aston Villa.

Plenty of others have followed in Rosenthal’s footsteps since he somehow managed to hit the crossbar with the goal gaping on September 19, 1992.

As a result, Sky Sports are attempting to find out the worst miss in Premier League history.

To do so, they’ve listed the 15 worst misses of all-time and are getting fans to vote.

Let’s take a look at the nominees.

Ronny Rosenthal vs Aston Villa

Takes it around the goalkeeper, has an open goal 10 yards out and manages to hit the crossbar. How?

Robbie Fowler vs Notingham Forest

After Steve McManaman’s strike hit the post, the ball fell to Fowler inside the penalty area, who could only put it wide. To be fair, the ball did come to him quite quickly and on his weaker right foot.

Samassi Abou vs Manchester United

Abou was almost on the goal-line when he somehow put the ball over the bar. It did bounce right in front of him, mind.

Alan Shearer vs Chelsea

The Premier League’s greatest ever goalscorer makes the list! Ok, so this isn’t exactly a terrible miss - just an embarrassing finish. Six yards out, the ball falls to Shearer and everyone expects the net to bulge. But Shearer’s effort ends up troubling the corner flag.

Kanu vs Middlesbrough

One of those that looks harder to miss than score. A low cross found Kanu and the back post but he manages to spin the ball off his boot and over the bar.

Thierry Henry vs Chelsea

The greatest player in Premier League history? Possibly. But he was guilty of missing an absolute sitter against Chelsea. After typically brilliant football from Arsenal, Robert Pires pulled the ball back to Henry, who somehow blazed over from eight yards.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Sheffield United

One of the greatest players in football history with one of the worst misses in Premier League history. Ryan Giggs rolled the ball across to Ronaldo, who was standing four yards out with an open goal. How did he manage to put it over? Slight bobble maybe…

Darren Bent vs Portsmouth

The miss that prompted Spurs manager Harry Redknapp to say: "You will never get a better chance to win a match than that. My missus could have scored that one.

"Bent did not only have part of the goal to aim for, but he had the entire net - and he put it wide. Unbelievable. I was just so frustrated."

Carlos Tevez vs Sunderland

Three vs one. And yet, somehow, Tevez managed to mess it up.

Fernando Torres vs Manchester United

The scorer of 85 Premier League goals. But after rounding Edwin Van der Sar, Torres sliced his left-footed effort wide in front of the Stretford End.

Mario Balotelli vs QPR

Highlights of this match between QPR and Liverpool went viral recently, mainly due to Balotelli’s bad finishing. This wasn’t his only bad miss of the match - but it was his worst.

Dele Alli vs Stoke

Alli did everything right, sent Shay Given to the ground, then somehow hit the post from close range.

Raheem Sterling vs Burnley

It should’ve been a typical Manchester City goal. Apart from Sterling’s somehow missed from two yards from Kyle Walker’s low cross.

Matt Ritchie vs Burnley

How!? Just how!?

Sergio Aguero vs Chelsea

City won this fixture 6-0 and Aguero scored a hat-trick. But he also produced a really embarrassing miss at the back post. Minutes later, he scored an absolute screamer from 30 yards. Football is a funny game.
