Jesse Lingard is a name that completely divides opinion at Manchester United.A homegrown product of United's famous academy, the 26-year-old has been at the club since 2000 and made the step up to the senior squad in 2011.The following four years were spent on loan at the likes of Leicester City, Birmingham City and Derby County, but in the 2015/16 season, Lingard got his chance. He's since scored some important goals for United, most notably in the 2016 FA Cup final, 2016 Community Shield and 2017 EFL Cup final. But beyond that, Lingard's United career has been largely underwhelming. His best ever return in the Premier League came in 2017/18, when he notched eight goals and five assists in 33 games. However, in his three other full Premier League seasons, he's never managed more than six goals and assists combined in at least 25 appearances. It's looking like it will be the same story this campaign, too, with Lingard currently without a goal or assist in four games.Considering the England international is a winger by trade, that's simply unacceptable.A lot of United fans are of the belief that Lingard isn't good enough for them, and yet the Evening Standard claim he's set to be offered another new contract.Lingard signed a new four-year deal in 2017 and after two years United have reportedly decided that he deserves renewed terms. As you can imagine, the news hasn't gone down well with fans.

The opinion of fans is seldom considered when it comes to new signings and new contracts, but perhaps United would be wise to listen on this occasion.
