Loris Karius' embarrassing blunders since the 2018 Champions League final

Loris Karius made another massive blunder last night.

The German goalkeeper started for Besiktas in their Europa League opener against Slovan Bratislava.

And he was soon picking the ball out of the back of the net after a comical error.

A hopeful ball was punted forward, which looked as if it would be dealt with by a Besiktas defender.

But Karius came charging out to try and clear the danger himself, only to make little contact with the ball.

He ended up colliding with his teammate and Andraz Sporar was left with the easy task of putting the ball into the empty net.

Unfortunately, that was just the latest of a series of blunders for Karius.

There’s no doubting that the former Mainz 05 goalkeeper is a talented goalkeeper but he is too error prone.

Ever since that Champions League night in Kiev, Karius has become a different goalkeeper.

We have listed some of his biggest blunders since that disastrous display against Real Madrid 15 months ago:

Karius needed a strong pre-season to keep his place at Liverpool.

But he brought back memories of his display in Kiev by dropping a clanger.

Karius spilt a tame free-kick, leaving a Tranmere player with the easy task of tapping home.

Karius made his first major error against Malmo in the Europa League last season.

He completely misjudged a cross and let it loop over him and into the far corner.

Karius had a night to forget against Sarpsborg last season.

He rushed out of his goal needlessly, gifting the home side the opener.

Karius had a nightmare start to this game.

Besiktas were 2-0 down inside five minutes and both were his fault.

He was miles off his line and a Sarpsborg player took advantage, with his long range effort looping over Karius and into the net.

And here’s a video of all his worst moments for Besiktas put together…

You’ve got to feel sorry for Karius at this point. As the saying goes, you have to be crazy to be a goalkeeper…
