World number four, Naomi Osaka, has won her first title in eight months at the Pan Pacific Open, beating Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).

The competition took place in the 21-year-old's hometown of Osaka and is the first time she has won a title in the country of her birth, Japan.

This title is the first for Osaka since she won the Australian Open earlier this year. She spoke after the match of how much it meant to be able to win in her hometown.

"This is the city where I was born and that gave me a lot of power to play match after match.

"I think what I learned from this tournament is just to focus every point, and just to have really positive energy."

In 2018's US Open, Osaka became the first Japanese player to win a Grand Slam and the first to take No. 1spot when she secured a second major in January.

Osaka's dominant performance at the Pan Pacific Open comes a week after she parted ways with former coach Jermaine Jenkins. After the announcement, she took to Twitter to express her gratitude to Jenkins.

“I’m super grateful for the time we spent together and the things I learned on and off the court but I feel like now is (an) appropriate time for a change,” she said.
