Manchester United suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

But perhaps the worst part of it all is that is wasn’t particularly surprising.

United finished last season in terrible form and they’ve very much picked up in the same manner this campaign.

Draws with Southampton and Wolves have been joined with defeats to Crystal Palace and now West Ham in their opening six matches.

That’s despite spending £150 million in the summer.

What is wrong with United right now?

Well, with Jose Mourinho and Roy Keane in the Sky Sports studio, an inquest was always going to happen.

While they didn’t have too much time to fully dissect United’s performance at the final whistle due to the upcoming Chelsea vs Liverpool match at Stamford Bridge, they did have more time following the conclusion of that game.

And after being shown Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s post-match interview after their damaging defeat, former club captain Keane went on a rant about everything that is wrong with United right now - and it's typically honest.

"Listen, I’ve known Ole a long time, one of the nicest lads you’ll ever meet, and I can tell just by his eyes he’s fuming,” Keane began.

“‘I think he’s disgusted. Like any manager, he’s going to come out and try and defend his team, but he talks about characters and leaders: the proof is in the pudding. Managers can back their players all they want, but it’s what they do on the pitch when the referee blows that whistle and we didn’t see that today.

"We keep talking about Manchester United, we look at the first goal, it’s about the basics of football, closing people down, sprinting to people. The first goal summed up where Man United are at the moment.

"For all the lack of quality, all the lack of goal threat – the young boy James has come in, they’re almost depending on him to try and win a game. He’s a young kid coming in from Swansea. He’s still learning his trade, they’re almost hanging their hat on him.

The reality is, they’re just not good enough a lot of these players. We can be critical of players who don’t sprint or close down, but a lot of these players aren’t good enough for Manchester United. It’s as simple as that. And we’ll be having these same conversations over the course of the season.

"Just not good enough. Where do you start with this team? I didn’t see anyone digging each other out. We talk about the goalkeeper, Maguire, experienced players. I think my head is spinning as well, I’ll be joining Ole!"

Trust Keane to say it exactly how it is.
