Rival fans threw a knife at Millonarios' David Macalister Silva in Colombia

Millonarios' David Macalister Silva was lucky not to be seriously hurt

Things got rather out of hand in the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellin, Colombia on Saturday.

The heated game between Medellin and Millonarios saw a supporter hurl a knife onto the pitch as the away side celebrated a stoppage-time winner.

Millonarios' David Macalister Silva appeared to be the target of the object, with the 32-year-old immediately picking it up and handing it to the referee, who then passed it on to the fourth official.

The pictures from the incident are just shocking. This kind of thing should never, ever happen in football.

Thankfully, no one was injured and Millonarios could celebrate their hard-fought 2-1 victory after the final whistle was blown.

The Daily Mail report that Independiente Medellin fans have already been in trouble this season.

A small minority of supporters were fighting with machetes prior to their game with Atletico Nacional  on September 8.

It is unknown yet whether Independiente Medellin will be punished for the thuggish actions of their fans this time around.

If there were any justice, they would receive a prolonged stadium ban, as well as financial punishments.

As for Millonarios, their win over Medellin has put them in the Categoria Primera A table and just four points behind current leaders Alianza Petrolera.
