Toto Wolff abandoned an interview mid-question after Lewis Hamilton asked to speak to him away from the cameras in the aftermath of the Singapore Grand Prix.

In a moment that has been captured on Twitter, the CEO of Mercedes was in the midst of answering a question in his interview with Canal Plus before Hamilton shouted over and asked to have a word.

Wolff abided and turned to the interviewer to say “wait a second” before walking away to talk to the current British champion.

It was a bad day all round for Mercedes as Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finished fourth and fifth respectively for the first time this season.

Hamilton had been chasing Charles Leclerc for the lead mid-way through the race before his contest unravelled in the second half of the Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s strategic gamble was his undoing. When eventual winner of the race Sebastian Vettel pitted, Hamilton radioed into his team to tell them that they should try to “undercut” Leclerc.

However, his opportunity was removed when Ferrari took the decision to pit their number two early on the very next lap.

The gamble had all-but made Mercedes’ decision for them. They had no option but to run Hamilton for as long as possible and attack with fresh tyres in the later laps.

It didn’t work and had it not been for his teammate pitting early and backing off to slow down Red Bull’s Alexander Albon, the Brit would have finished even further behind.

Clearly, all of the tactical mishaps and lack of communication left Hamilton disgruntled as he called for the CEO for a chat away from all the media whilst he was in the middle of answering a question.

Still, though, with his championship lead over Bottas extending to 65 points – after the Finn sacrificed his position to keep both Mercedes cars in the top five - it remains only a matter of time before Hamilton wins his sixth world title.
