FIFA’s The Best awards were held in Milan on Monday night and many of the world’s greatest players and managers were in attendance.Lionel Messi, who won the Men’s Player of the Year award, was there along with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Kylian Mbappe, Jurgen Klopp, Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric and many others.Cristiano Ronaldo was conspicuous by his absence but the Portuguese superstar’s compatriot Jose Mourinho was there, despite the fact he’s currently unemployed. The revered coach, who is currently working for Sky Sports as a pundit as he waits for the right opportunity to return to football management, presented one of the awards on the night. And shortly afterwards he was pulled to one side by one of the show’s presenters, who took an awfully long time to effectively ask Mourinho to imagine that he was in charge of a World XI.

This was the beginning of the bizarre interview. The look on Mourinho’s face said it all.

The 56-year-old, who was sacked by Manchester United last December, said that he could manage this imaginary ‘World XI’ because he was currently out of a job.

He also pointed to Fabio Capello and Walter Zenga as potential candidates due to the fact they are also unemployed.

Mourinho had clearly had enough by this point and, much to the amusement of viewers, just walked off after being thanked for his honesty.

The presenter then pleaded for Mourinho to come back: “You have to stay here with me! Why do you want to go?”

She then conceded: “Okay, you want to go.”

A lot of people on social media didn’t blame Mourinho from making a rapid exit from that interview…

Live TV is always brilliantly unpredictable.
