David Benoit, the son of former WCW and WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, has announced his desire to join All Elite Wrestling.

In June 2007, Chris Benoit murdered his wife Nancy and son Daniel across one weekend before hanging himself.

Benoit had won the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE’s flagship event WrestleMania in 2004 and had been widely regarded as one of the best grapplers on the planet.

He had learnt his trade in Stu Hart’s dungeon in the late 1980s before spending eight years in Japan. An eight-year stint flitting between WCW and ECW led the wrestler, known as ‘The Crippler’, to the WWE in 2000.

During the time of the double-murder suicide, Benoit was working for WWE under the ECW brand. On the fateful weekend, he was slated to win the ECW World Championship at the Night of Champions pay-per-view.

David, 26, is Chris’ eldest son from his first marriage to Martina Benoit.

In a recent episode of the Pro and Bro Wrestling Podcast with Fred Rosser (formerly known as Darren Young in WWE), David revealed that he had been in training with AEW wrestlers.

David hadn’t mentioned specifically which AEW wrestlers he had been training with, however, he did state that he has a close friendship with Chris Jericho.

Jericho was one of his father Chris’ friends and former WCW and WWE colleague. Jericho is currently the AEW’s top champion.

David even went as far as to reveal he has had wrestling attire made for his debut and even attended recent AEW pay-per-views, including Double or Nothing in May and All Out in August.

Ever since the tragedy that rocked the wrestling business in 2007, WWE have left the door open for David Benoit, inviting him backstage on numerous occasions over recent years.

However, it is the promotion owned by Fulham and Jacksonville Jaguars chief Tony Khan where David wishes to ply his trade as opposed to Vince McMahon’s organisation.

David stated on the aforementioned podcast, as per The Sun: “I’m just messing around in the ring right now with a couple of guys from AEW.”

He replied: “I want to go to AEW one hundred per cent. I love AEW. I love what they do for the boys. Take care of them.”
