Liverpool are on the verge of signing a record-breaking kit deal with Nike, which would see them wear the new shirts as early as next season.

That's according to The Telegraph, which reports the European champions have been in talks with the American supplier since 2018.

The Reds are looking to 'significantly improve' the distribution of their jerseys across the world to meet the demands of their vast fanbase.

It's believed that this has been one of the most important demands of the negotiation between Liverpool and Nike - along with the annual value of the deal.

Although no specific figure has been announced, the supplier has promised it will be 'one of the most lucrative in world football' according to The Telegraph's report.

It's set to comfortably eclipse the £45 million-per-year contract that Liverpool have with New Balance, which is now in the final year.

The Reds want more than the £75m-per-year deal Manchester United signed with Adidas back in 2014.

Should they secure a higher figure, it would not just be the most lucrative sponsorship deal in club history, but in the Premier League too.

Barcelona currently earn £98 million each year from Nike, while Real Madrid make £107 million per season from Adidas.

Liverpool are hoping for a figure in that ballpark and it's one that they arguably deserve.

Jurgen Klopp's side have put themselves back amongst the world's most elite clubs, following last season's Champions League win.

They have also started the 2019/20 season in superb form, winning all six of their opening games to pull clear at the top of the Premier League.

There's no better time to negotiate a mega-money deal than right now, given the status of the team.

Interestingly, Nike have never sponsored a Liverpool kit, but that looks set to change very soon.
