If you weren’t aware, there is an almighty battle for Germany’s No.1 shirt right now.Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer has held that jersey for years and was once considered the best goalkeeper in the world. His stock has fallen slightly, though. And now, Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen has closed the gap.But instead of the two goalkeepers having a friendly rivalry as they battle for the one place, it’s turned sour.

During the last international break, Neuer told Ter Stegen that he should accept a bit-part role in the national team after he complained that he should be No.1.

But the Barca ‘keeper hit back saying that he has every right to complain about being behind Neuer in the pecking order.

"Of course I have something to say," he told Bild. "You can not call for competition and expect players who are not playing to be happy about it.

"You do not have to say anything about my feelings, that's my personal opinion. If you see the last few years as I have behaved, then such statements are inappropriate!"

And the clubs have now got involved.

Barca tweeted ‘number 1 in Germany’ after Ter Stegen saved a penalty against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week.

But Bayern has now taken a rather outrageous step.

President Uli Hoeness has come out and said that the Bavarian club will stop allowing their players to join the German national side if Neuer is replaced by Ter Stegen.

"We would never accept that [Ter Stegen replacing Neuer as No.1]," he told Bild. "[If Bayern are informed of the change] before it happens, we won't send any players to the national team anymore."

Astonishing.

It was believed that Ter Stegen would be selected between the sticks for Germany’s upcoming fixtures against Argentina (friendly) and Estonia (Euro 2020 qualifier).

If that’s the case, expect Nicklas Sule, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry to refuse to represent their country.
